This weeks Business Spotlight goes to Unicorn Books and Gifts. I had the owner Stacy Bart in with me telling me all about Unicorn Books and Gifts. For those of you who don’t know, they recently moved to 845 Main Street (where the old Ramona Hotel is). You can also call them at 760-788-3700.
Not too long ago I saw a post in one of the Facebook forums giving tax advise. I contacted that person and got her on this episode of Ramona Podcast. Jamie LeClair is the owner of Diversified Accounting and Tax Services Inc. and is obviously very knowledgeable. It was a really great and informative conversation and to say I learned something new, would certainly be an understatement.
Jamie gives us some really great information on things you can & cant write off, being audited by the IRS, an IRS SCAM that has been around for years; and tips to keep yourself financially secure from the IRS.
For more information, contact Jamie LeClair from Diversified Accounting and Tax Services Inc. on their website by CLICKING HERE. Or call 760-789-8870, you can also email through their website.
Have you heard of the delivery service here in Ramona land called “Orange Crate”? It is a great service and novel idea for business. I had the chance to have owners Andrew and Wayne in with me to tell everybody about the business.
If you don’t know who they are, here’s a quick run down. Orange Crate can deliver food from local restaurants, supplies from Kahoots, groceries from Albertsons; and now they recently started delivering alcoholic beverages. You can go to their website MyOrangeCrate.com to order whatever your little heart desires. Once you place your order, you can usually expect your delivery within an hour (but thats not a 100% guarantee). Ive personally used Orange Crate a few times and found the website and ordering process to be extremely easy; plus the customer service is excellent.
Ramona Town Radio was asked to MC/Host this past years Awards Gala and Installation Dinner put on by our good friends over at the Ramona Chamber of Commerce. So, we sent Gail Edwards from RTR In The Mornings and Dan Edwards from Food Observations. Included in this weeks Ramona Podcast, we play a snippet from RTR In The Mornings with Gail telling us all about it.
This years winners include, Business of the Year – Country Wine & Spirits. I talked to their general manager Steve Hermiz and he said Country Wine & Spirits has spent $58,000 this past year to putting on free bbq’s, giving away free turkeys and hams during Christmas and Thanksgiving, and donating to various community sports teams.
Lifetime Achievement went to Kristi Mansolf, Citizen of the year was awarded to Darrell Kinney, and non-profit of the year was given to Ramona H.E.A.R.T. Mural Project.

Somebody asked me to look into the condition of the alley behind 7-11 & Jack In The Box. For as long as I can remember (I’ve lived in Ramona since 3rd grade), it is ALWAYS torn up with huge potholes and the pavement is simply horrible. SO I did some looking into it. I called Cal-Trans to see what they could do. They stated that it is not part of the county maintained roads and it is the responsibility of the property owner, unless they had a contract with the city; in which they don’t.
I sent in some emailed to 7-11 and Jack In The Box; but no word back yet. Once I find something out, Ill let you all know.
There has been a lot of talk about the homeless man “Chuck” who usually hangs out by the 7-11 and Jack In The Box. I decided to get him on a future episode to get his story. He agreed to meet up with me and have an interview. I do have to say, Chuck is an extremely nice man. I asked what he needed the only thing he said was socks and underwear. Preferably briefs size medium.
